Full compatibilityGeneric ELM327
Vgate is the Shenzhen-based ELM327-compatible adapter manufacturer behind the iCar Pro, BM2, and vLinker product lines, all of which work with Skanyx at full feature parity. The iCar Pro 2S is the dual-mode Classic Bluetooth + BLE adapter aimed at general use (35-50 EUR), the BM2 is the BMW-friendly variant aimed at K-line communication on older BMW models (25-40 EUR), and the vLinker MC+ and BM+ models are the firmware-improved premium tier (40-60 EUR) that come closer to OBDLink reliability at half the price. Vgate hardware is hardware-agnostic on the diagnostic side and integrates cleanly with Skanyx for fault codes, freeze frame, live data, the 8-step Pre-Purchase Inspection, AI Chat, and Health Monitor.

Does Vgate work with Skanyx?
What works with Skanyx:
- Read and clear OBD2 fault codes (P0xxx, P2xxx generic) with freeze frame data
- Read standard OBD2 live data PIDs (Mode 01) at consumer-grade polling rates
- Read VIN (Mode 09) and Skanyx vehicle-database lookup against approximately 17,000 configs
- Read on-board monitoring test results (Mode 06)
- Full 8-step Pre-Purchase Inspection workflow including idle 90s and cruise 60s phases
- AI Chat, Health Monitor, Fault Prediction, photo analysis, NHTSA recall lookup
What doesn't work with Skanyx (use a brand-specific tool instead):
- Manufacturer-specific coding on BMW, VAG, Mercedes, or any brand
- Bidirectional control (DPF forced regen, EPB service, throttle relearn, ABS bleed, AdBlue injector test)
- Mode $22 manufacturer-extended PIDs (DPF regen count, AdBlue dosing rate, NOx delta, Haldex coupling temperature)
- EV battery management data on Tesla, BMW i3/i4/iX, Nissan Leaf, Polestar, VW ID series
- Higher-than-standard polling rates on the iCar Pro and BM2 (vLinker MC+/BM+ poll faster but still below OBDLink level)
Vgate does not sell a coding app, the company's only first-party software is Vgate Scan for basic diagnostics. For coding, pair the same Vgate adapter (especially vLinker MC+) with BimmerCode for BMW, OBDeleven PRO for VAG, or Carly for multi-brand. The hardware is hardware-agnostic.
Best Vgate model for Skanyx pairing: vLinker MC+ for the best Vgate Skanyx pairing on either iOS or Android, vLinker BM+ if your vehicle is an older BMW E36/E46/E60 needing K-line support, Vgate iCar Pro 2S as the cheapest credible dual-mode option.

Vgate pros and cons
Pros:
- Wide product range covers budget (BM2 at 25 EUR) through premium (vLinker MC+ at 60 EUR)
- vLinker MC+ delivers approximately 70 percent of OBDLink MX+ reliability at half the price
- BM2 model handles K-line on older BMW E36/E46/E60 vehicles where generic clones fail
- Dual-mode Bluetooth + BLE on the iCar Pro 2S supports both iOS and Android
- No subscription, no vendor lock-in, hardware-agnostic with Skanyx and other ELM327 apps
- Available on Amazon EU and AliExpress with EU warehouse shipping
Cons:
- Polling rate on iCar Pro and BM2 models slower than OBDLink, less suitable for transient faults
- Firmware varies between batches, some 2023-stock units have CAN protocol bugs that 2024+ units fixed
- No coding or bidirectional control regardless of model
- Build quality below OBDLink standard, plastic feels less robust
- Tesla and EV battery diagnostics out of reach, same limit as any generic adapter
What is Vgate best for?
- Mid-budget Skanyx users wanting better-than-Veepeak quality without paying OBDLink prices
- Older BMW E36/E46/E60 owners needing K-line support for older diagnostic protocols
- Multi-brand households running BimmerCode and Skanyx on the same vLinker BM+ adapter
- Used-car buyers running 8-step Pre-Purchase Inspections on 5,000-20,000 EUR vehicles
When NOT to choose Vgate
- Workshop daily-driver use, OBDLink MX+ has more reliable Bluetooth at scale
- Tesla, BMW i3/i4/iX, Nissan Leaf owners chasing battery SOH data
- Owners needing brand-specific coding via Vgate hardware alone, pair with BimmerCode or OBDeleven instead
- Anyone needing DPF forced regen or EPB service
Vgate alternatives
- OBDLink MX+ (100-130 EUR) - reliability upgrade if you scan weekly or run multi-vehicle PPI
- Veepeak OBDCheck VP11 (30-50 EUR) - cheaper but slightly lower build quality
- OBDeleven 3 adapter - falls back to generic ELM327 in Skanyx, doubles as VAG coding tool
- vLinker BM+ - the only model with K-line support for older BMW work
- Carista BLE adapter - if you want light coding alongside Skanyx diagnostics
Vgate availability by country
Germany
Vgate iCar Pro 2S and vLinker MC+ widely stocked on Amazon.de, Autodoc.de, and kfzteile24.de. Motor-Talk.de BMW E46 and E60 subforums often recommend the vLinker BM+ specifically for K-line communication on pre-2007 BMW models.
Poland
Allegro.pl lists Vgate adapters around 110-250 PLN. iParts.pl stocks the full lineup. Polish independent VW workshops sometimes pick vLinker MC+ over OBDLink for cost-conscious diagnostic work, the BM+ is popular for BMW pre-purchase checks on otomoto.pl listings.
Lithuania
Available on Skydelis.lt and direct AliExpress imports with 2-3 week shipping. The cost-conscious Lithuanian used-car market favours iCar Pro 2S over OBDLink MX+ for first Skanyx pairings on 3,000-12,000 EUR vehicles from autoplius.lt.
United Kingdom
Amazon UK lists iCar Pro 2S at 35-50 GBP. vLinker MC+ around 45-60 GBP. The BM+ is the de-facto recommendation in UK BMW Owners Club forums for users running BimmerCode on older E46 and E60 models.
Spain
Amazon.es is the primary channel. The BLE-capable iCar Pro 2S and vLinker MC+ suit the iPhone-dominant Spanish market. ForoCoches threads on Vgate adapters for pre-ITV inspection screening are widely cited.
Does Vgate work with Skanyx?
Yes, the entire Vgate lineup (iCar Pro 2S, BM2, vLinker MC+, vLinker BM+, iCar Pro 3.0) works with Skanyx at full feature parity for fault codes, freeze frame, standard live data, the 8-step Pre-Purchase Inspection, AI Chat, Health Monitor, and Fault Prediction. vLinker MC+ is the recommended Skanyx pairing across the Vgate range.
Vgate iCar Pro vs vLinker MC+, which is better?
vLinker MC+ has improved firmware, faster polling, and tighter Bluetooth stability than the iCar Pro 2S. Pay the 10-15 EUR premium for vLinker MC+ if you run weekly PPI scans or chase transient faults. Save the money on iCar Pro 2S if you scan occasionally for check-engine lights.
Vgate BM2 vs BM+, what is the difference?
BM2 is the budget BMW-friendly model (25-40 EUR), vLinker BM+ is the premium BMW-optimised model with improved firmware (40-60 EUR). Both add K-line support useful for older BMW E36/E46/E60 vehicles where generic ELM327 clones fail. Pick BM+ if you also run BimmerCode or BimmerLink alongside Skanyx.
Vgate price 2026
BM2 is 25-40 EUR, iCar Pro 2S is 35-50 EUR, iCar Pro 3.0 is 30-45 EUR, vLinker MC+ is 40-60 EUR, vLinker BM+ is 40-60 EUR. No subscription. Stable EU pricing on Amazon DE, ES, IT, NL, UK. Polish Allegro adds 10-15 percent overhead.
Is Vgate worth it vs cheap AliExpress clones?
Yes for the vLinker line, marginally yes for iCar Pro, neutral for BM2 versus the cheapest clones. vLinker MC+ has documented firmware improvements over generic v1.5 clones, you can verify by checking the adapter responds to ATSP0 protocol auto-detection on newer CAN-FD vehicles where cheap clones often fail.
Can Vgate do BMW or VAG coding?
No directly. Vgate hardware is ELM327-compatible and reads only standardized OBD2 protocols. The vLinker BM+ pairs well with BimmerCode for BMW coding apps because of its K-line support, but the coding capability comes from BimmerCode, not from Vgate. For VAG coding pair with OBDeleven or Carista alongside Skanyx for diagnostics.
Why does my Vgate adapter not pair with iPhone?
Check the model. Vgate iCar Pro 2S and iCar Pro 3.0 use BLE and pair with iPhone. The original iCar Pro (non-2S) used Classic Bluetooth and is Android-only. BM2 is BLE so it pairs with iPhone. If you bought an older iCar Pro model and it does not show up in iOS Bluetooth settings, that is the cause, the model needs to be a 2S or 3.0 or a vLinker for iPhone compatibility.
