Does vLinker work with Skanyx?
What works with Skanyx:
- Read and clear OBD2 fault codes (P0xxx, P2xxx generic) with freeze frame data
- Read standard OBD2 live data PIDs (Mode 01) at consumer polling rates
- Read VIN (Mode 09) and Skanyx vehicle-database lookup
- Full 8-step Pre-Purchase Inspection workflow on iOS and Android
- AI Chat, Health Monitor, Fault Prediction, NHTSA recall lookup
What does not work with Skanyx (use a brand-specific tool instead):
- Manufacturer coding, bidirectional actuator tests, or dealer-level module access (no generic adapter does this)
vLinker does not make a coding app. For BMW coding, BimmerCode runs on the vLinker BM+ or MC+; VAG coding needs a brand tool with its own hardware (the OBDeleven device or a VCDS interface); for diagnostics, vLinker plus Skanyx is a complete setup.
Best vLinker model for Skanyx pairing: vLinker MC+ (BLE) for both iPhone and Android users
vLinker adapter models and prices
vLinker MC+ (BLE + Classic)
€40-€60. Vgate's everyday vLinker: Bluetooth 4.0 with BLE for iPhone and Classic for Android and Windows. It is the recommended vLinker for Skanyx and covers generic OBD2 on both platforms: fault codes, freeze frame, live data, readiness monitors, VIN and the 8-step Pre-Purchase Inspection. It connects faster and more steadily than budget clones, which helps in the longer drive phases of the inspection. It adds no coding or module access in Skanyx; that stays with brand apps.
vLinker BM+
€40-€60. The BMW-oriented vLinker: BLE 4.0 for iPhone, Android and Windows, sold by Vgate as made for BimmerCode and BimmerLink on CAN-based BMWs (E90 from 2005, F and G series). It pairs with Skanyx as a normal OBD2 adapter on any make. It is not the tool for pre-2005 E36 or E46 BMWs, which need a K+DCAN cable, and the plain vLinker BM without the plus is Android and Windows only.
vLinker FS Bluetooth
€55-€70. The wireless version of Vgate's FORScan adapter for Ford and Mazda, with automatic HS/MS-CAN switching. It connects to iPhones through Apple MFi, a link Skanyx uses only for the OBDLink MX+, so for Skanyx treat it as an Android adapter. On Android it covers generic OBD2: fault codes, live data, readiness, VIN and the Pre-Purchase Inspection. Vgate itself warns that third-party iOS apps may be limited on it.
vLinker FS USB
€35-€45. A USB cable for Windows laptops running FORScan on Ford and Mazda, with automatic HS/MS-CAN switching and a programming voltage output for module updates. It has no Bluetooth or Wi-Fi, so it cannot connect to Skanyx on a phone. Buy it for FORScan work; for Skanyx pick the MC+ or FD+.
vLinker FD+
€45-€55. Vgate's Ford adapter in dual mode: Bluetooth 4.0 with BLE for iPhone and Classic for Android and Windows, sold as made for FORScan with MS-CAN support. It also works with Skanyx on both platforms for generic OBD2 on any make: fault codes, freeze frame, live data, readiness monitors, VIN and the 8-step Pre-Purchase Inspection. The MS-CAN side is for FORScan; Skanyx reads the standard OBD2 network.
vLinker FD
€30-€40. The Bluetooth 3.0 (Classic) version of Vgate's Ford adapter, so Android and Windows only, no iPhone. On Android it works with Skanyx for generic OBD2 codes, live data and the Pre-Purchase Inspection. A separate FD Wi-Fi version also exists; for an iPhone, take the FD+ instead.
vLinker MS
€70-€85. Vgate's multi-network Bluetooth adapter with Apple MFi certification and five CAN channels (HS, MS, SW, CH and LS), aimed at brand apps that need those extra networks. On Android it works with Skanyx for generic OBD2: fault codes, live data, readiness, VIN and the Pre-Purchase Inspection. On iPhone Skanyx does not use its MFi link (Skanyx supports MFi only for the OBDLink MX+), so iPhone owners should pick the MC+. The extra CAN channels add nothing in Skanyx, which reads the standard OBD2 network.
vLinker MC
€40-€55. The earlier vLinker MC without the plus: Bluetooth 3.0 Classic, Android and Windows only, even though some marketplace listings call it iOS-compatible. On Android it works with Skanyx for generic OBD2 codes, live data and the Pre-Purchase Inspection. Vgate prices it close to the MC+, which adds BLE for iPhone, so the MC+ is usually the better buy.
Supported OBD2 protocols
- ISO 15765-4 CAN (11-bit and 29-bit)
- ISO 9141-2
- ISO 14230-4 KWP2000
- SAE J1850 PWM and VPW
