- Leave the car standing overnight, then read live data before you start it. Oil temperature, coolant temperature and intake air temperature should all sit within a few degrees of each other on a properly cold engine. - Start the engine and watch the oil temperature climb. On a healthy engine it lags coolant by a few minutes and then settles around 90 to 110 C.
