P2455: Diesel Particulate Filter Pressure Sensor "A" Circuit High

Quick Answer
Moderate SeveritySafe to drive (short-term)Emissions

P2455 means the signal voltage from the DPF pressure sensor has risen above the highest value the engine computer accepts, usually close to the 5 V reference. That is an electrical fault: typically a broken signal wire or ground, a signal wire shorted to the 5 V supply, water in the connector, or a sensor that has failed internally. It does not mean the particulate filter is blocked; a genuinely loaded filter gives a high but plausible reading and sets codes such as P244B or P2463.

Estimated repair costFrom €30 to €470+, varies by vehicle

What does P2455 mean?

P2455 means the signal voltage from the DPF pressure sensor has risen above the highest value the engine computer accepts, usually close to the 5 V reference. That is an electrical fault: typically a broken signal wire or ground, a signal wire shorted to the 5 V supply, water in the connector, or a sensor that has failed internally. It does not mean the particulate filter is blocked; a genuinely loaded filter gives a high but plausible reading and sets codes such as P244B or P2463.

P2455 is a emissions-related diagnostic trouble code classified as moderate severity. When your vehicle's ECU detects this condition, it stores P2455 and illuminates the check engine light.

What are the symptoms of P2455?

If your vehicle has triggered P2455, you may notice one or more of these symptoms:

  • Check engine light on
  • Often no change in how the car drives at first
  • DPF warning light on some models, sometimes later because regeneration has stopped
  • Reduced power or limp mode on some vehicles
  • Code returning straight after a new sensor, when the fault is in the wiring

What causes P2455?

Here are the most common causes of P2455:

high: Open circuit in the sensor ground wire
high: Broken or disconnected signal wire
high: Failed DPF pressure sensor
medium: Signal wire shorted to the 5 V reference or to battery voltage
medium: Water or corrosion in the connector
low: Engine computer input fault (rare)

Is it safe to drive with P2455?

Generally yes, for short-term driving. Driveable in the short term, and the car often feels normal at first. Do not leave it for weeks: without a trustworthy pressure signal the engine computer may suspend automatic regeneration or fall back on an estimate, and some cars limit power. A filter that goes too long without regenerating can block, which turns a sensor or wiring repair into a DPF clean or replacement.

How do you diagnose P2455?

Follow these steps to pinpoint the root cause of P2455:

  1. Read all stored codes and the freeze frame. If P244B or P2463 is also stored, the filter may be loaded as well, so plan for both. A generic OBD2 reader shows this code, its freeze frame and standard live data. A few diesels also report DPF differential pressure on a standard PID, but on most cars the pressure reading, the soot load and the regeneration history need manufacturer software, and only manufacturer software or a workshop can run a forced regeneration.
  2. Unplug the sensor and inspect the connector for water, green corrosion and spread or pushed-back pins.
  3. With the key on and the engine off, measure the 5 V reference and check the ground wire back to the engine computer. A broken ground is a classic cause of a signal that reads high.
  4. With the sensor unplugged and the key off, check the signal wire for continuity end to end and for a short to the 5 V reference or to battery voltage.
  5. Follow the harness past the turbo, exhaust and DPF for melted, chafed or chewed wiring, and wiggle-test it while watching the signal.
  6. If the wiring is sound, fit the correct sensor for the engine code, run the adaptation if required, clear the code and road-test. If the code returns straight away after a new sensor, go back to the wiring before buying anything else.

How much does P2455 cost to fix?

Repair costs for P2455 vary depending on the root cause and your vehicle. Here are typical estimates:

Repair Parts Cost Labor Cost Total Estimate DIY Difficulty
Replace DPF pressure sensor €40–€150 €30–€80 €70–€230 Easy
Clean and repair sensor connector €10–€60 €60–€180 €70–€240 Moderate
Repair sensor wiring harness section €20–€120 €120–€350 €140–€470 Professional
Adapt or relearn a new sensor with diagnostic software (where required) €0–€0 €30–€80 €30–€80 Professional
Forced DPF regeneration if soot built up meanwhile €0–€0 €60–€150 €60–€150 Professional

Prices estimated as of March 2026. Costs vary by region, vehicle, and shop.

P2455 on specific vehicles

P2455 behaves differently depending on your vehicle. Select your car below for model-specific causes and known issues:

Volkswagen Golf TDI

2006-2019

On Volkswagen group TDIs the DPF differential pressure sensor is exhaust pressure sensor 1 (G450), and Volkswagen lists fuses, wiring and connectors next to the sensor itself for its electrical faults. On engines whose computer offers it, a new G450 is adapted with VCDS or ODIS after fitting.

Common questions about P2455

What does P2455 mean?

P2455 means the DPF pressure sensor's signal voltage is too high, above the range the engine computer expects. It is an electrical fault in the sensor or its wiring. It is not the same as the filter being full: a blocked filter produces a high but believable reading and sets different codes.

Why does P2455 come back after replacing the sensor?

Because the sensor was not the problem. A broken ground wire, a broken or chafed signal wire, a short to the 5 V supply or water in the connector all make the signal read high, and a new sensor cannot fix any of them. Test the wiring end to end before fitting another part.

Can I drive with P2455?

Yes, for a short while. The engine usually runs normally, but it has lost its measurement of the filter's soot load and may stop regenerating, and some cars limit power. Get it repaired within a week or two.

Is P2455 the same as a blocked DPF?

No. P2455 is an electrical code: the voltage is higher than any real pressure could produce. A blocked filter shows up as a high but plausible pressure, with codes such as P244B or P2463. The two can appear together, which is why the freeze frame and the other stored codes matter.

How much does it cost to fix P2455?

A new DPF pressure sensor costs €70 to €230 fitted. A connector repair runs €70 to €240 and a harness repair €140 to €470. Some cars also need the new sensor adapted with diagnostic software, which adds €30 to €80.
